June 3rd key has been won
^8Ryuga has won the key for today, June 3rd. He was the first to email us with the correct code. It was found on the Unusual Hat Guide on the right side disguised as a question last on the list. It read "Q: What is the alphanumeric string of text that is special for this 24 hour period? A: Unusual.". Congratulations to ^8Ryuga for winning today's key. Good luck for tomorrow's code everyone.

Today's key (June 2nd) has been won.
Quetetris is today's winner. He successfully decoded first the code from our blog post on TF2 map creation. The code was hidden in each sentence's first letter. It spelled out "The Code Is F2P". Congratulations to Quetetris and good luck to everyone on tomorrow's free key. If you're just joining us instructions on how this all works are here.
FYI: the "Atom" at the bottom of the page will not be a code on any day. Apparently it is the creator of the template I use for this blog.

New TF2 Blog Entry
The TF2 Blog has a new post. How a Map Gets Made is here. Every map has a special process which includes a brainstorming session but input from gamers is important. Community input has driven them to develop more Control Point maps.
One of the first things done when an idea is submitted is to create a scribble drawing. Designing the areas out of a main idea helps create flow. Each map takes its own path towards completion. In large maps with big open spaces, there are elements added to give a sense of scale.
Sometimes when the map is finished they realize that more battle space is needed. Fleshing out player routes and obvious paths is also a big area of design. 2Fort isn't mentioned but that map has a classic balance and spacing. Playtesting is a final step which separates what works from what doesn't.

First key has been won
"Dynamic Tri-Edge" is our first winner and has been given a key. The correct code was "orange" and was found at the bottom of the page. For your information, the code was in a picture file with "this is what you are looking for". I did say it would be obvious. Next key, tomorrow June 2nd. When? Who knows. Its placement and format will very likely be different than today's. Good luck.
June daily key giveaway starts today!
Here's a recap on our key giveaway.
- We will give away one key each day for all 30 days of June. Each day starts at midnight and ends at 11:59 PM that night. Days go by US Eastern Standard Time, see clock on right side of page for local time here.
- Each day at a random time there will be a code somewhere on the main page (could be on spreadsheet, or even graphics), not on older posts or comments that aren't on the main page. Blog posts on the main page are fair game.
- The code will be alphanumeric and of any length. It can be in a picture, it can be text. It can be obvious but not labeled "code" so searching for that word will do you no good.
- There will be indication of something important or it will be the only obvious change on the page so something must be there and you need to look closer.
- The first person to email us here with the code and their steam id wins. Winner will be notified via email and can collect the key anytime we are both concurrently on steam.
- You can win multiple keys (this rule subject to change at any time if we detect cheating).
- Winners will be published after each key is won in a blog post
update: to assist some of you,
- the code is not "Nasdaq", the stock ticker #'s on the logo banner or "Vintage Vintage", nor is it "Atom". Those have all been there for a long time now.
- Nor is the code "Numero Uno" or typos or any bad grammar.
- it will never be placed in the "Followers" section.
- It will never be an acronym or other alternate names for items (ie. Brainslug, GRU, SMG, KGB)

June is "free-key-a-day" month
So to keep things interesting and reward some of our users with free loot, we decided to give away a bunch of keys this coming month of June. Starting June 1st, the plan is to give away one key per day, that's 30 keys in total. Each day of June there will be a code somewhere on the page. It could be on the spreadsheet, the text in the page, or even in the logo. It will be obvious but not labeled "code" so you will have to do a little looking (you didn't want us to make it that easy, did you?). The first person to email us here with that day's code and a link to their steam id will get a free key. Times will vary as we have a worldwide audience (although I am giving away the keys and I'm here on the east coast US so late nights/early mornings for me will not be common).
Just our way of saying thanks to all the gamers who visit us. Also, we will have some news on a site expansion coming soon. Exciting things are to come.
