Spreadsheet accuser's evidence examined

Ok everyone, I thought that the steamrep thread for this issue had been closed but someone forwarded me a new link.  I thought that before reddit labeled my account as "scammer" they would take a closer look at this person's manufactured evidence, however, I went through it carefully and have addressed it in detail.

Take a look and read through it.  Examine this accuser's evidence carefully.  I think you'll find like I did he has distorted, exaggerated and flat-out lied.  If you like our website, our prices, giveaways, (even if you don't) make sure you sound-off on the reddit thread, (the steamrep thread was locked because an admin "Datastorm" apparently didn't approve of pro-spreadsheet comments or is just having a bad day).  Perhaps he should use his power for a better purpose - examining why his forum was and is still being used to smear this site with false statements.

(comments here are ok, although I'd prefer you visit the reddit thread linked above and speak there.  When you post here, no external links/sites and keep it clean.)

Thanks for all the comments and support through this issue.  As stated above, you can support us the best by reading through the accuser's "timeline" and our detailed response.  Post your comments on the reddit thread.  When someone you know repeats this accuser's false story, correct them.  Additionally - link to us, use our guide daily, tell us if a price is wrong, and participate in our giveaways.  Big upgrade is on its way, ETA: end of December.

  2. I wish to remain anonymous for this post. I can easily say that you, and all the people that compile the prices and data for this site, are awesome. I mean that sincerely. You guys make trading simple by giving us a price to start out with, and you keep it interesting by incorporating changes and fluctuations to it. I hope that you continue to do what you do best, and I pray that this whole thing is resolved neatly and in your favor.
    Sincerely,
A friend with the nom de plume of Roman

  3. Well Admin, I have to say that since then I started to use BOTH spreadsheet and other sources, but it's good that you admitted your "tricks" and defended yourself. My critic is that you are too damn anonymous and the fact that you don't tell who your "contibutors" are, and so everyone believes that you are working alone: I think others find it hard to believe in you for that.
Next time don't tell half truths or "lie" about accounts and people will probably trust you more.
I'm still following you though. Keep it up.

    1. Well I'm not very anonymous anymore. As far as my helpers, I require they be inconspicuous. After the pitchforks were brought out for this issue I know that they wouldn't necessarily want any notoriety. Maybe my past-contributors would want to come forward, but that's their choice. But logically, I would have to be a robot to keep track of all these items.

No more Steam User Forums shenanigans. That was silly and in the past. Thanks for being honest and your support.

  4. this whole things is crazy to me. i started using spreadsheet after clearly getting ripped of by people more knowledgeable of the tf2 economy. i CHOOSE to rely on spreadsheet as it is a easily check-able trade resource. i play and trade a popular tcg called magic the gathering. this is very similar in choosing what site to price your cards with in trades. some choose ebay, which has lowest prices. some choose a popular retailer starcitygames, which has higher prices. some choose channelfireball which has medium prices. and some choose tcg player which has a list of prices.

but the point is that people choose sites to price there item on. and having a stable price sheet is incredible valuable. i cannot conjure up a scenario where a trade that nets u say even as much as a bud compensates for the damage this has done. it seems highly improbable that there is an attempt to manipulate and profit when simply adding 2 banner adds makes u much much more profit

    1. Thanks for your note. We agree that the logic in his accusations just isn't there.

  5. Funny, I got accused of being a 'spreadsheet admin' on SPUF for defending it. I found it oddly pleasing. Obviously I corrected them, but still, seemed funny at the time.

In any case, anyone shitting on the spreadsheet obviously has an agenda. In the trade by trade basis, it's to buy something cheap and resell it for the spreadsheet price or sell something high and re-buy it at the spreadsheet price.

The agenda of the person running the smear campaign is probably not much different: Price control.

No matter what, I'll still use this as my source for base values as long as it's kept up to date. If I get some time I'll post on the links you provided as well.

    Cheers,

  7. Without this spreadsheet this game would not have an economy and people would probably get scammed back and forth :) i support you my steam id is [TECH]shkchp31

  8. I always base my prices according to this blog and I genuinely can not possibly believe that disgraceful scum could accuse you for such a thing. With no regret or doubt, I know for a fact you do not scam and you never will. Another thing I know is that you serve to help and support the TF2 economy, not get blamed by such dogs.

  10. This is what happens when you listen to Reddit. Ever.

Reddit is the festering shitheap of the internet, run by twelve-year-olds who spew memes and bitch about not being able to rip people off.

This is like if I started a thread about how "Wall Street fixes stock prices because I bought shares in Facebook and it didn't shoot up immediately and I lost money. Cry for me!"

Take it as a compliment, these idiots don't know the first damn thing about economics.

(I'm deeply sorry to all you acceptable people who browse Reddit. This is just referencing to my experience with Redditors, whom tend to be the most insufferable pricks I have ever had the displeasure to meet)

  11. Since we're allowed to make our voices heard...

I don't exactly agree with your spreadsheet, and you may or may not mold it to how you could make a profit, but I still don't see how the Ebenezer ( the more difficult to get, and overall rarer of the two main christmas hats) isn't worth as much as a BMOC it's absurd.

Alas, as much as I disagree the majority of people use it as a start point(which is okay). Never would I set these prices in stone, but to use it as a reference is fine by me.

That being said, Reddit is kinda full of crap in general, so I must be more of a chaotic neutral in this situation.

    1. Try and think about demand and supply; more people want the BMOC, but there is quite a limited supply of BMOCs. Even though the Ebenezer is rarer, there are less people demanding for it than those who want the BMOC.

    2. That may be true, but you're only thinking about demand.

The difference in quantity is quite substantial also (about 2k)

Considering that there will never be more of those items, the gap is fairly large between the values. (about a 10-15 key difference depending on the season and market)

this isn't even touching the subject of how the kritzkreig is the MOST common of the crate 30 stranges, yet worth the most.

  12. Hmm, should I trust a website that takes the average price of REAL trades, or should I trust a website where sharks flock to en masse to alter prices as they see fit?

  13. When you say that you use money to keep site up, and you have ads on a blogspot. Are you meaning that you use said money to buy keys, and other such gifts so that you may share the wealth? If that is the case, then a good 95% of commenters on the first link are quite stupid.
Secondly, I see how self incriminating evidence could be bad. However, a good 98% of the people on the first link (haven't bothered to check the second link, as I've seen enough BS comments already) seem to have overlooked the apologies + admissions to having stopped doing such "suspicious" activities. Not only that, but the apparent need to spy on the wealth of a spreadsheet owner is quite sad.
Now, I can see where some people despise the spreadsheet, and this is a good 3% of the commenters, from what I could tell. I do agree that trading shouldn't be based off of cold hard cash (there are of course, exceptions). I do agree that the barter system is [FRIKING] amazing. But that 3% needs to realize that some people only want to turn profits, regardless of what they *could* get from a trade. It is a system, that like our economy, helps to keep the rich richer, and the poor... Well... You know. But when some how 27 items is equivalent to 1, that's just how its going to be. End of story.

    1. In the past I've answered this, but use your imagination. Really, these questions are inappropriate and besides the point.

The better question is why did this person lie and distort and exaggerate to smear my site? Who is he connected to?

  14. http://forums.steamrep.com/threads/tf2-spreadsheet-scandal.9913/page-4
    I don't approve.

If you sincerely believe you have done nothing wrong, why do you feel the need send people over to what is MY thread and have them spam it with pointless support? The SteamRep staff is not out to "get you", unless you have, in fact, been manipulating your spreadsheet for your own profit.

However, I can support the fact that your spreadsheet helps to prevent sharking at least to some extent. My stance, as I have stated in the original post of the thread I posted on SteamRep, is pending the outcome of SteamRep's investigation. Until then, that is the only thing I can say about your spreadsheet.

  15. What is up with these stupid people accusing this spreadsheet/owner? It is 95% of the time very accurate and up-to-date. It isn't like the Admin morphs his prices, he gathers them from the average price they sell for. This admin does a great job of keeping this spreadsheet accurate and well made.
