Valve: no Steam Console planned

Rumors had been going around signaling that Valve might have enter the console gaming fray with some sort of Steam console product.  That has been all slapped down now at least for the foreseeable future here.  I never undersood this rumor since Valve has spent so much time making Steam into a cross-platform software "app".  What would they get into the hardware business for?  There is a lot of money to be made selling games via Steam and starting a completely new business by manufacturing hardware (at a loss most likely) didn't make sense.

What I can see is Valve teaming up with a Sony Playstation, Microsoft Xbox, or Nintendo Wii, the latter two most likely as Valve and Microsoft share the east side of Seattle as their home.  Nintendo has a presence in Redmond also but nothing like Microsoft's.  Time will tell

  1. hey, i love your spreadsheet, but may i ask that i notice that the wrangler is missing, i have been wanting to sell one but can't find anywhere that says how much it is worth, it came from crate 18 which i unboxed a few days ago and this is really making me somewhat interested.

  2. Do you know how much the orange box goes for in tf2 items? The primary interest is another premium tf2 account without paying any real money

  3. cabbage: listed. we'll put these old vintage weapons in over time but generally they are worth 2 scrap to a rec.

  4. The thing about valve teaming up with microsoft is that they don't see eye to eye in terms of DLC. That's why PS3 copies of Portal 2 were linked with steam and not Xbox 360 copies.

  5. While we're going off-topic, I think you should change the value of s Blutsager, Reserve Shooter, Axtinguisher to .66 flat. That is what everyone lists them as, and I can tell you from personal experience that it is hard as hell to sell a s Blutsager at .66, I think its value is closer to a rec since there aren't many battle medics out there...

  6. Henry: agreed on the reserve and axtinguisher. we reduced the price on blut to rec - 2x rec as thats more indicative of the medic stranges at this point. thanks for the heads-up.

  7. YaRly: typically a $ amount for a game will match up with LESS than the dollar amount of items. So a $10 game will get less than 20 refined (around $.50 each refined metal for the current market).

Best bet is to start a thread on a trade forum requesting orange box and offers to sell it to you.
